Full Time Contract/Relief Veterinarian
The Animal Rescue League of Iowa, Inc. is seeking an experienced veterinarian who is available to work from April-June on a contract basis. Qualified candidates should have at least 3 years of experience, high level of skill with dental extractions, and be able to work independently in a fast paced environment. This position works with the ARL’s animal control division half time and consists of doing breed identification, animal neglect exams and reports, providing testimony in court cases, as well as overseeing the medical care given to the animals brought into the animal control facility. This position would be doing some dental work (extractions), some spay/neuter surgeries, and other needed veterinary work on animals in the shelter to get them ready for adoption. Full time Veterinary Technician/Assistant
The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is seeking a veterinary technician to work in our surgical area full time; Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Qualified candidates should ideally be certified. Years of practical experience will be considered in lieu of certification. Candidates should possess a high level of skill, be able to work independently in a fast paced environment, have excellent communication skills, possess a keen attention to detail, be a quick learner and be able to work as a team member. The ability to lift and carry animals up to 55 pounds is required. Prior animal shelter experience is a plus. We offer competitive pay and benefits and good working environment. Full time Medical/Veterinary Technician
The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is seeking a medical/veterinary technician to work in our medical area full time. Qualified candidates should have animal handling and veterinary technician experience, be able to work independently in a fast paced environment, have excellent communication skills, and be able to work as a team. Certified veterinary technician a plus but not required.
- At least one year of directly related experience as a veterinary technician working in shelter medicine, spay/neuter clinic, wellness clinic, or private veterinary practice is preferred.
- Animal handling and husbandry experience is highly desired.
- Must possess a stable work history.
- Must be able to work well with internal staff and clients and external clients.

Full Time Adoption Counselor
The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is seeking a full time Adoption Counselor for our ARL Main location. Candidates must have strong customer service skills, outgoing personality, the ability to multitask, organizational skills, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast paced team-oriented environment. This candidate would preferably have experience with animals in a personal or professional setting, although not necessary. This position is responsible for all facets of customer service, maintaining a safe and healthy environment, processing transactions, and precise record keeping. Open availability is a must as staff are required to work a rotating schedule. Starting pay is $10/hr. Part Time Animal Care Technician
The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is seeking a part time Animal Care Technician. This position will include all shifts and weekends, averaging from 20-30 hours per week. The position is at the ARL Main location and must be willing/able to work with all types of animals. Part Time Animal Control Officer
Are you looking for an exciting job out of the office? Are you up to the challenge of handling all types of situations? The Animal Rescue League of Iowa is looking for a part-time Animal Control Officer (ACO). Duties include but not limited to: enforcing city ordinances regarding animal care and control laws, issuing citations or warnings, impounding sick or stay animals, assisting law enforcement when animals are involved in situations, attempt to locate owners or lost and/or injured animals in order to return animals to owners, respond to calls concerning issues with wild and domestic animals, and more. This position is Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday with a maxiumum of 20 hours a week. Must have high school diploma. Law enforcement and animal experience are a plus. Part Time Off Site Adoptions Intern
The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is seeking an open-minded, highly motivated person with both people and pet-friendly social skills to intern for our offsite adoption programs. You will assist for a minimum of 12 hours per week gaining valuable skills with communications, data collection, promotions, event planning and execution. This unpaid internship has room for a flexible schedule and will give you professional work experience in the non-profit sector. It will also provide a unique look at the entire shelter and how it runs efficiently. Responsibilities include: assisting with the event coordination, event execution, community involvement, sign-up and follow-up for our volunteer adoption crew, filling in at events if needed, creation and distribution of promotional materials. The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is seeking a highly motivated, creative individual to serve as a Graphic Design Intern for the Marketing team. The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is seeking a highly motivated, organized individual to serve as a Special Events Intern. Applicants should be very detail-oriented and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines. This position is unpaid and is a set 90 day minimum term with 8-16 hours each week. The intern will assist with special event projects and pre-event logistics, call on vendors, businesses, and event attendees when needed, procurement, and other projects depending on the intern’s desired outcome.
