Sending Animals to Rescue
The Animal Rescue League of Iowa routinely works with rescue groups to place animals in their care when it has been identified that the animal would do best in an in-home foster home versus the shelter for medical, behavioral, or emotional reasons. This way, the foster home can work with the animal to get them ready for adoption through their organization.
The ARL takes extreme precautionary measures to ensure that ANY of the rescue group that we work with is a legitimate rescue group, with the animals' best interest in mind. In 2010, the ASPCA released findings that 25% of animal hording cases involved "rescuers". Through our vigorous screening process, we feel confident that the following rescue groups that we work with are not and will not be part of that 25%.
Adopting From Rescue Groups
Approximately half of the dogs that are available for adoption at the ARL are purebreds. If you're looking for a specific breed, please click here to search the animals available for adoption. New animals are added each day, so check back often. If you absolutely cannot wait for a specific breed, please visit some of the breed rescue groups that we work with below to find the breed you're looking for.
