Suffering and hungry but full of love

When Clover and Ivy arrived, the sight of them was heartbreaking. They were dangerously emaciated and dehydrated. Their ribs and hip bones pressed against their skin, and their noses were dry and cracked. Their fur was also heavily stained with urine, indicating they’d been living in their own waste. They didn’t get this way overnight. They had been suffering for weeks, if not months.

When the dogs entered our exam room, they frantically searched every inch for something to eat or drink, even trying to lick water from our veterinarian’s hands as she washed them – desperately reaching for the faucet to get any drop they could. When we offered food and water, they went straight to the water, only to eat ravenously once the water was gone.

Their situation was dire, and they were fortunate to arrive when they did. Our veterinarian said that without help, Clover likely only had days to live. Ivy wouldn’t have had much longer.

Both pups are now on a special feeding program to help them safely gain weight. For dogs with such severe emaciation, the initial period of reintroducing food is the most dangerous, so our Miracle Medical Team is monitoring them closely. We’re taking things one day at a time and they have a long road ahead of them, but they are receiving expert care.

Incredibly, after all they’ve been through, they are eager to love. Even in their frail state, they wagged their tails and sought out affection from our medical team. They knew they were finally safe. And now they need your help.

Clover and Ivy didn’t deserve what they went through – no animal does. Your gift to our Miracle Medical Fund will be lifesaving for these dogs and so many other pets like them who arrive at our doors in need of emergency care. Please give now, and consider making a monthly gift, to help them heal and provide hope for better days to come.
