Full-Time Positions

Full-Time Veterinary Technician/Assistant - ARL Main
The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is seeking a veterinary technician to work in our surgical area full time. Qualified candidates should ideally be certified. Years of practical experience will be considered in lieu of certification. Candidates should possess a high level of skill, be able to work independently in a fast paced environment, have excellent communication skills, possess a keen attention to detail, be a quick learner and be able to work as a team member. The ability to lift and carry animals up to 55 pounds is required. Prior animal shelter experience is a plus. We offer competitive pay and benefits and good working environment. Full-Time Animal Care Technician - Animal Care & Control Center
The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is seeking a full-time Animal Care Technician at our Animal Care & Control Center. This position provides daily care and cleaning for all the animals in our care. Applicant must be willing/able to work with all types of animals. Job entails long periods on your feet, bending, kneeling and the use of ladders for cleaning purposes. Full-Time Veterinary Technician - Animal Care and Control Center
The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is seeking an experienced veterinary technician to work full-time in our medical area at our Animal Care and Control Center. This position will require working some weekends. Qualified candidates should have experience, be able to work independently in a fast paced environment, have excellent communication skills, and be able to work as a team. Prior animal shelter experience and/or animal handling is a plus. Competitive pay and good working environment. Certified veterinary technicians a plus. Part-Time Positions

Part-Time Animal Care Technician
The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is seeking a part-time Animal Care Technician. This position will include all shifts and weekends, averaging from 20-30 hours per week. The position is at the ARL Main location and must be willing/able to work with all types of animals. Internships

Part-Time TheraPets Intern
Through the ARL’s TheraPets program, volunteers and their pets are certified as a team to visit participating local facilities to make a difference in the lives of those they meet. Position Summary: To serve as an assistant to the TheraPets Coordinator to help develop and implement goals and objectives for the TheraPets program. The goal of this program is to promote awareness of Animal Assisted Interactions in our community, to provide certification of Therapy Pet Teams and to support our volunteers through the certification process and beyond.

SCHEDULE: Minimum of 90 day term with 10-24 hours each week. Hours to be completed in 4-8 hours blocks. (Flexible scheduling)

  • 2 weeks notice must be provided for shift changes
  • In the case of an emergency, intern must call/email by 9am to alert supervisor

Responsibilities:

  • Help build and maintain a collaborative group of TheraPets volunteers.
  • Assist with TheraPets team assessments.
  • Assist in writing ARL’s TheraPets e-newsletter.
  • Assist with upkeep of TheraPets Facebook page.
  • Promote new/returning partnerships with facilities.
  • Maintain detailed records as needed for various reports.
  • Assist in planning and executing educational workshops and events.
  • Other projects depending on intern’s desired outcome.

Qualifications:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook
  • The ability to write clearly and accurately using proper grammar
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills and strong collaborative people skills
  • Ability to keep efficient records using computers for data base management
  • Willingness to work on evenings and weekends for special projects/events and to meet emerging project needs
  • Animal handling experience is beneficial, but not required

Part-Time Marketing & Graphic Design Intern - Spring & Summer 2018
The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is seeking a highly motivated, creative individual to serve as a Graphic Design Intern for the Marketing team. Applicants should have strong graphic design skills for both print and web and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines. The intern will be exposed to all facets of marketing for Iowa's largest non-profit animal shelter. This position is unpaid and is a set 90 day minimum term with 8-16 hours each week. Part-Time Special Events Intern
The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is seeking a highly motivated, organized individual to serve as a Special Events Intern. Applicants should be very detail-oriented and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines. This position is unpaid and is a set 90 day minimum term with 8-16 hours each week. The intern will assist with special event projects and pre-event logistics, call on vendors, businesses, and event attendees when needed, procurement, and other projects depending on the intern’s desired outcome. Part Time Humane Education Intern- Summer 2018
The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is seeking a highly motivated, organized individual to serve as our Humane Education Intern during the summer of 2018. Applicants should be very detail-oriented with excellent communication skills, enjoy working with kids and adults and have a passion education.  This position is unpaid with a minimum of 8 hours per week.  The intern will assist with the planning and executing of all educational programs such as classroom programs, Girl Scouts, Tales with Tails, Litter-ary Club and off-site events along with a variety of other duties as needed by the department and the intern’s desired outcomes. 

Summer interns must be available to work during summer camps:

June 11-14 from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

June 25-28 from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

July 9-12 from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
