Full-Time Positions
 

Volunteer Coordinator

Want to be part of an exciting job here at the Animal Rescue League of Iowa? We are looking for a highly motivated, organized individual to serve as our full-time Volunteer Coordinator. This position is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the volunteer programs. Prior experience growing and implementing volunteer programs and training is preferred.

The following duties are normal for this position; other duties may be required and assigned:

  • Recruit, supervise, evaluate and encourage volunteers in all ARL programs and all areas needed by the ARL
  • Organize and conduct volunteer orientations
  • Coordinate and maintain volunteer application and screening process
  • Design, research and implement ongoing recognition and appreciation
  • Study and standardize volunteer procedures to improve efficiency
  • Maintain database of volunteers to include at a minimum, name, address, and telephone
  • Coordinate volunteer operations with other departments/supervisors/program chairs
  • Responsible for over-site of volunteer training by various departments
  • Establish ongoing liaison with corporations, schools and other community organizations to facilitate recruitment of volunteers
  • Perform all duties in a manner to ensure positive image of the ARL and improves functioning of ARL

Foster and Transport Assistant

Want to be part of an exciting job here at the Animal Rescue League of Iowa? You will be responsible for assisting the Foster and Transport department with sending animals out to foster, scheduling foster appointments, communicating with foster parents and transfer of animals between different ARL site locations.

Work is performed in a shelter and in an outdoor environment with a variety of weather conditions. There is frequent bending, reaching, squatting and kneeling required while performing duties. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds at any time. There is exposure to cleaning chemicals, possible animal bites, odors and diseases of animals, possibly contagious.

Ideal candidates will have the following:

  • Animal handling experience
  • Animal husbandry or relevant education
  • Team player with strong communication skills
  • Ability to communicate through email, phone, and in person with a variety of people and personalities
  • Organized, self-motivated and able to multitask

Responsibilities include:

  • Readying cats, dogs and small animals to go out to a foster home
  • Scheduling appointments for foster animals
  • Onboarding new foster parents
  • Use Better Impact to communicate with and track foster parents
  • Load transport van with animals and supplies for partner locations and drive when necessary
  • Assist with transports from external shelters

Full Time Design & Marketing Manager

The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is seeking a creative and experienced Design & Marketing Manager to help advance the ARL’s mission, programs, and services. This position is part of the ARL’s Development Team that is responsible for all marketing, fundraising, events, public relations, image and brand for the ARL and reports to the Director of Development & Communications.

The Design & Marketing Manager leads the planning and execution of marketing strategies and campaigns, and produce the graphics to support those campaigns. This role routinely collaborates with the Events and Social Media team to plan, execute, and meet deadlines.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or relevant experience in Graphic Design, Communications, or Marketing
  • Minimum (5) years Graphic Design experience with an emphasis on digital projects
  • Strong creative abilities, and familiarity with developing new ideas for digital and print communication
  • Solid command of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign
  • Familiarity with project management and media planning
  • Understanding of Content Management Systems for websites, and a basic command of HTML/CSS
  • Understanding functionality and expectations for mobile and desktop experiences
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Thrives working in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
  • Understanding of the basics of search engine optimization
  • Ability to pitch new ideas and solutions to the team
  • Experience with Trello, Basecamp, and Blackbaud/Luminate Online is a plus

Responsibilities Include:

  • Designing and producing digital content, including: emails, landing pages, and a variety of website graphics
  • Producing campaign graphics for adoption events, fundraisers, online experiences, and community outreach efforts
  • Weekly and Monthly media planning for Radio, Television, and Print
  • Design of facility graphics and signage
  • Producing content to supporting fast-turnaround fundraising efforts
  • Continuously improving the customer experience on our website, emails, or in-person
  • Design of 3 yearly issues of a shelter magazine
  • Management of multiple ARL profiles on Yelp, Google Analytics, Bing, NextDoor, and more.

Animal Care Technician

Want to be part of an exciting job here at the Animal Rescue League of Iowa? You will be responsible for direct animal care, enrichment and most importantly helping our animals find their forever home! We are now hiring full-time Animal Care Technicians to work with all types of animals.

Work is performed in a shelter and in an outdoor environment with a variety of weather conditions. There is frequent bending, reaching, squatting and kneeling required while performing cleaning duties. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds at any time. There is exposure to cleaning chemicals, possible animal bites, odors and diseases of animals, possibly contagious.

Call Center Representative — Pet Help Center

The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is seeking Call Center Representatives to assist the public in a professional, compassionate and empathetic manner via phone support in our Pet Help Center

Call Center Representatives will have the opportunity to consult with and provide helpful resources to individuals who want to keep their pet, but for a variety of reasons, may be struggling. The resources provided may allow many of these owners to keep their pet in their home. Most importantly, this support allows us to change the lives of thousands of more pets.

The ARL’s goal is to provide a consistent, positive customer experience to all callers, and our Call Center Representatives are critical to this mission.

Ideal Candidate will have the following:

  • Minimum of 1-2 years working in customer service in a call center
  • Excellent customer service skills, including problem solving skills
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills and openness to change
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel/Outlook)

Customer Experience Associate — Pet Help Center

The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is seeking a full-time Customer Experience Associate to assist the public in a professional, compassionate, and empathetic manner in our Pet Help Center.

Customer Experience Associates interact directly with the public with all things related to pet ownership. They ensure that animals entering out center are set up for the best possible outcomes from the very first interaction. By providing safe, supportive environments free of judgment, the Customer Experience Associate allow owners and finders to seek assistance without fear or embarrassment.

The Customer Experience Associate spends time with each customer working to understand the true nature of the situation and provides appropriate resources ranging from surrender prevention options, alternatives to shelter relinquishment, and acceptance of the animal into our programs. They document all key information about the animal’s history, known behavior, and habits.

Ideal Candidate will have the following:

  • Minimum of 1-2 years working in customer service, prefer money handling experience
  • Excellent customer service skills, including problem solving skills
  • Animal Handling experience (may do basic evaluations and vaccines)
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills and openness to change
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel/Outlook)

Grooming Technician

The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is seeking a full-time groomer to work with all types of animals. The position will be responsible for helping pets at the ARL feel and look better through grooming, as well as performing direct animal care and enrichment tasks.

Ideal candidates will have the following:

  • At least one year of prior grooming experience with dogs and cats (required). Grooming experience with other animals such as guinea pigs and rabbits is preferred but not required
  • Willingness to learn proper animal care and cleaning procedures (training will be provided)
  • Ability to endure long periods of time standing, with limited breaks
  • Be a team player with strong communication skills

Facilities and Grounds Technician

The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is looking for a full-time Facilities & Grounds Technician to assist with routine maintenance of grounds, facilities, equipment and vehicles. The schedule for this position is Sunday - Thursday each week.

Basic Candidate Qualifications include:

  • Active driver's license
  • Knowledge of lawnmowers and vehicles
  • Ability to do general repairs of building
  • Desire for organization and cleanliness of facilities

This position may be exposed to animal odors, cleaning chemicals and moderate noise levels during the work day. In addition, the position may require ladder usage, long periods of standing, frequent bending/lifting and the ability to move up to 100 pounds (with assistance if necessary). Birthday Party Coordinator

Our birthday party program is growing to meet the increased demand so the Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is seeking a part time birthday party coordinator to lead the children’s birthday parties that occur at the ARL.

Possible party times are Fridays (5:30-7:30 p.m.) and Saturdays and Sundays (10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., 1:15-3:15 p.m., and 4-6:00 p.m.). There is an average of 3-5 parties booked each weekend.

This is a contract position that pays a flat rate per party of $50. Experience working with children or event planning is required. Experience with animal handling is preferred. Internships

Part-Time Special Events Intern

The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is seeking a highly motivated, organized individual to serve as a Special Events Intern. Applicants should be very detail-oriented and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines. This position is unpaid and is a set 90 day minimum term with 8-16 hours each week. The intern will assist with special event projects and pre-event logistics, call on vendors, businesses, and event attendees when needed, procurement, and other projects depending on the intern’s desired outcome.
