When the Animal Rescue League of Iowa opened its doors in 1986, the shelter was caring for just over 3,000 animals annually. Today, there are more than 18,000 abused and homeless animals coming through our doors.

There is a growing need. But a shrinking Animal Rescue League. We are simply out of room.

We desperately need a shelter - not only to accommodate more and more animals, but to provide space for important educational programs that will truly make a difference in the lives of animals and their caretakers.

But we need your support. More than that, our animals need you. The proposed cost for building this new facility is 9.5 million dollars. We need funds! Whatever you can do to help our efforts is greatly appreciated.

The Animal Rescue League of Iowa, Inc. is proud to have been voted runner-up for Best Nonprofit Organization by the Des Moines Business Record in their 2008 Readers’ Poll for the Best of Des Moines.

The ARL would also like to send congratulations to the ARL’s new shelter general contractor The Weitz Company for being recognized as the Best General Contractor. We also would like to congratulate our owner's representative working with us on our new shelter, Terrus Real Estate Group, for receiving accolades as the Best Real Estate Management Company.

The Animal Rescue League of Iowa, Inc. has expanded our Barnyard Buddy Program to include a brand new 12,000 sq. ft. barn. The Kruidenier Barn Buddy Barn is a new safe haven for all the different farm animals the ARL receives each year. Click here to find out more.
