Through our Paws for Patriots program, veterans receive 50% off regular adoption fees for cats of all ages and dogs 6 months and older.

Pets for Vets
The ARL's Pets for Vets program creates a win-win situation for veterans and homeless pets. Through this program, veterans will be matched with an ARL shelter dog and complete a four-week Good Manners training class at the ARL. Through positive reinforcement training techniques, the Pets for Vets program enables veterans to build strong bonds with their new companion. Adoption fee is waived* upon full completion of the four-week training class.
*Adoption fee waived as funds allow. The Pets for Vets program is available to veterans in the greater Des Moines area.
