One-Time and Set-term Volunteering

Opportunities for those looking to give less than 12 hours of volunteer time are still highly beneficial to the shelter and serve a wide array of needs.

Every month we have larger projects suitable for volunteer groups and events requiring unique needs. Due to insurance requirements, however, we are unable to allow one-time or short-term volunteers to work hands-on with the pets. Therefore, we try to identify a project before bringing you on-site to volunteer.

We have many options for one-time volunteer opportunities, so you can choose how your group wants to become involved.

Donation Drive

The easiest opportunity for a group is to hold a donation drive for the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. We will talk to you about our most-needed items, and then coordinate a time for you to bring in any donations. You can find a list of needed items here.

Group Volunteer Project

A group volunteer project can be done on site or off site. If you will be volunteering off-site, we would provide you with instructions on what types of enrichment items can be handmade and brought in. If you wish to volunteer on-site, we would do something similar or identify a project that we need help with.

Projects can include:

  • cleaning shelter areas
  • picking up trash outdoors
  • landscaping projects
  • making enrichment items for the animals
  • event staffing (typically not on site, but they are still highly beneficial for the shelter and animals)

*Please note, these opportunities are on an as-needed basis, so please be flexible.

Once you decide what best fits your goals for your experience, complete our form below, and we will do our best to accommodate your request.
