Join us in celebrating the grand opening of the new Des Moines Animal Services building!
The city of Des Moines and the Animal Rescue League of Iowa will hold a grand opening at the new Des Moines Animal Services building at 1441 Harriet St. on Saturday, Jan. 6. The event will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9:30 a.m. and an adoption event in the building's new adoption center from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Tours of the facility will be offered following the ceremony until 11 a.m.
Ribbon cutting ceremony
The ceremony will include speeches from Mayor-elect Connie Boesen, Des Moines Police Chief Dana Wingert, and ARL CEO Tom Colvin. Visitors can then take a self-guided, behind-the-scenes tour. The building will officially open for business at 10 a.m.
Grand opening adoption event
The ARL will host an adoption event from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. at the new Des Moines Animal Services building. Adoption fees will be 50% off for all dogs and cats ages 6 months and older.
Celebrating ARL CEO Tom Colvin's 50th Anniversary
2024 marks 50 years of Tom Colvin's involvement in animal protection in the state of Iowa. To celebrate this remarkable occasion, the ARL is asking for $50 donations to be made during the event in honor of Tom's continued dedication.
