Doxie DashOn Feb. 8 the Des Moines  Buccaneers take on the Sioux City Musketeers and your Doxie will have the chance to take on other local four-legged weenies on the ice!

During the first intermission of the Buccaneers' game, the Bucs and the Animal Rescue League of Iowa are bringing "wiener dog" racing to Des Moines once again! Dachshund owners can enter their dogs into the race for prizes and to help raise funds for animals in need!

PLUSEnter for a chance to win an exciting prize basket filled with ARL merchandise, Buccaneers gear, and tickets to a future Buccaneers game. After the game, participate in our auction of the players' Barkaneer jerseys, with all proceeds directly supporting homeless pets at the Animal Rescue League of Iowa!

GAME TIME:

  • Check-in starts at 5 pm
  • Puck drops at 6 pm
  • Race during 1st Intermission

NEW THIS YEARDoxies participating in the race can watch the game with their owners. There will be a designated seating area (section 107) for doxies, their owners, and guests so everyone can cheer on the Buccaneers before and after the dash.

($10 from each participant ticket is donated to the ARL)

DOXIE DASH PET WAIVER:

The below waiver is REQUIRED and must be filled out prior to the event for all participating dogs.

RULES OF THE DOXIE DASH

  1. Race is open to dachshunds (wiener dogs) and dachshund mixes only.
  2. Each entry includes admittance for (2) humans 18 years of age or older.
  3. For the race, one human will let their dog go from one end of the rink and the dog will run to the half line. The first to cross the finish line wins.
  4. Participants are allowed to bring props such as chew toys, balls, etc.
  5. Dogs must be up-to-date on all vaccinations and be at least six months old.
  6. No female dogs in heat.
  7. Participants are allowed to bring food for their dogs into the arena. However, no outside “human” food is permitted
  8. Participants will be asked to arrive at the arena between 5:00 pm - 5:45 pm at the North entrance of The RecPlex and will be instructed to go to a designated room until race time.
  9. The Buccaneers and Animal Rescue League reserve the right to prevent any dog (or human) from participating
  10. Participants and their dogs will be seated in a "dogs only" section allowing your pet to watch the game with you. Participants will also be allowed to leave if they choose to take their pets home and return.
  11. Participants will be allowed to take their pets outside for restroom breaks. Participants are responsible for picking up and throwing away any pet waste.

Fine print:

We welcome friendly dogs of all sizes and breeds and their responsible owners. For the safety of your dog and others, female dogs should not be in heat and please check with your veterinarian to make sure your dog is up to date on all of its vaccinations. Dogs must be leashed and under the control of their owner at all times.
