We told you a week ago that this time of year we start to see an increase in cases of cats living in overcrowded conditions. And here we are writing to you again.

This time, we assisted police in removing 17 cats and kittens from hoarding conditions in an Iowa home. The cats are now at the Animal Rescue League, where they’re receiving the medical and behavioral care that they need. All of the cats in this case are very fearful, and we expect many of them to be in our care for weeks.

Seventeen cats in one home is a LOT, but fortunately we were tipped off early in this case. It could have been much worse. None of these cats were spayed or neutered, so even just a few months down the road the cat population in the house would have skyrocketed, making the cats’ living situation even more dire.
