Volunteer Iowa points of lightDES MOINES, Iowa – Volunteer Iowa announces the certification of the Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) as a Service Enterprise Organization by Points of Light and the Iowa Service Enterprise Initiative.

The ARL completed an extensive assessment, over 20 hours of training and consulting and extensive internal planning and change to better integrate volunteers into day to day operations. Managed nationally by Points of Light and statewide by Volunteer Iowa, the Service Enterprise Initiative is a proven, research-based model that equips organizations to leverage volunteers and their skills across all levels to successfully deliver on their social mission. It also diagnoses strengths organizations can leverage and challenges that need to be addressed to achieve sustainability. There are now currently 16 certified Services Enterprises in Iowa with over 15 additional organizations currently working to achieve their certification.

“We are proud to have received the Service Enterprise Certification because it demonstrates our commitment to the volunteers who play an integral role in the success of our organization,” said Tom Colvin, Executive Director for the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. “The ARL staff committed to more than 200 hours over the past year and the hard work has clearly paid off. The timing of this certification happening during National Volunteer Week, when we are already celebrating the success of our volunteers, is especially exciting.”
