ARL transferring in over 100 animals from Iowa shelter closure

This week the Jasper County Animal Rescue League (JCARL) announced that they have decided to close their doors at the end of June so they asked us to transfer their pets into our shelter to find them loving homes. Yesterday we made the first of many trips from Newton to Des Moines with several dozen cats and dogs.

25 cats and 4 dogs arrived at the ARL yesterday and our medical team spent several hours giving them full medical evaluations. The pets received vaccinations, microchips, deworming medicine, blood tests, ear medications, and any other treatments they needed before settling in for the night. We are happy to share that one cat was already available to adopt TODAY, and eight of the cats and two of the dogs received spay/neuter surgeries today and should be available for adoption after their recovery within the next few days.

Two of the dogs received much-needed grooming yesterday, and more of the cats are also scheduled for spay/neuter surgeries this week. The remaining cats are currently under medical treatment until they’re ready for adoption. We’ll be making another trip to Newton to pick up more pets in a few days.

We’ll be continuing to work with JCARL throughout the rest of the month and into July until their shelter is empty and the remaining pets are in our care. In total, we are anticipating bringing back over 100 animals during this transition.
