Scarlett Survived a Traumatic Fall

posted on Friday, March 8, 2019 in News

(UPDATE 3/12/19): We’re happy to report that Scarlett’s surgery went very well yesterday and she is now resting comfortably. It took a plate and nine screws to stabilize her leg after she jumped from a bridge and sustained severe injuries. She still has many weeks of recovery ahead of her and is on daily pain medication, anti-inflammatories and antibiotics, but things are definitely looking up! THANK YOU to everyone who donated to our Miracle Medical Fund to help Scarlett get the surgery she needed! (Pictured below: Scarlett's post-surgery X-ray.)

Scarlett's Xray Post Surgery

Scarlett was rushed to the ARL’s Emergency Care Team after she was seen jumping off of a bridge and crashing to the ground below. She had dislocated both of her wrists and was in excruciating pain. We couldn’t believe she survived.

She could not walk so we carried her to our surgical suite and immediately started her on pain medications while we stabilized her legs and took x-rays to find out the extent of her injuries.

The trauma from the fall also severely damaged one of her paws, forcing our surgical team to remove two toes and part of her paw pad from one leg. While that leg is healing well now, her other leg is still very unstable, making it impossible for her to walk normally.

Scarlett needs surgery right away to fuse a joint in her leg – which is expected to cost several thousand dollars.

Your gift today to the Miracle Medical Fund will help Scarlett get the urgent medical care she desperately needs.
