When our Animal Welfare & Response Team was called to assist the Decatur County Sheriff in removing multiple dogs trapped in a filthy trailer, they arrived to see puppies poking their heads out of broken windows, looking for a way out.
Inside the trailer, the dog and four adolescent puppies were living in chaos in a tight space filled with feces, trash, and destroyed furniture. All were emaciated with no access to food or water. Even through their fur, their hipbones jutted out and we could see every rib. They needed help – and fast.
Our rescue team rushed them back to the ARL, where our Miracle Medical Team was waiting to provide care. We found that the puppies weighed less than HALF of what they should for their age and the adult dog was also shockingly thin. All were suffering from dehydration. When we offered treats as we examined them, they ate ravenously, frantically licking up every little crumb and searching every corner of the room for more.
We made them comfortable in clean kennels with soft bedding and gave them the first good meal they’d had in a long time. All have been started on feeding plans to help them gain weight safely under the care of our veterinarians.
While these pups are now safe, their healing is just beginning. Your gift today can give them hope.
When you give today, you’ll provide healing to these pups and so many others like them who arrive at the ARL in need of help every day. Your monthly gift will ensure we can always answer the call for pets in need no matter how many or how far away they are.
Plus, this month your gift will be doubled – up to $25,000 – thanks to a generous match granted by the board of directors of the ARL Foundation. It’s an incredible opportunity to make 2X the impact for suffering pets just like these pups.
Please give now to provide healing, hope and love to pets who need it most.
